Transitional™ Coffee is AGRO Cafe's own unique brand of sustainable coffee. It is coffee that AGRO Cafe and AGRODEV identify as coming from one of the best coffee producing communities in the world. We work with AGRODEV to purchase coffee at a fair price that is currently produced by traditional unsustainable practices (coffee dependant on agrichemicals, harvested by machine, bought below the production cost etc.) and convert them (over three years) to practicing organic production methods. This helps guarantee them an equitable price for their coffee. With this method we can stop the clearing of land for more coffee production and we can effectively educate and reduce poverty within coffee growing communities.
AGRO Cafe was spawned because of the belief in making the world a little more sustainable one bean at a time. We continually search for ways to improve the lives of farmer's dependant on commercial crops. The introduction of coffee has boomed and busted the economies of countries and countless rural poor. With our unique relationship with AGRODEV we are able to offer a Transitional™ coffee.
Coffee was introduced into rural communities all over the world with the introduction of colonization. Today many communities are suffering because of the volatility of the international coffee market. Luckily there are international organizations like OCIA and FLO that reward farmers for growing organic products and products traded at a fair price. Most coffee growers are not lucky enough to know about sustainable coffees or access to international labeling organizations. AGRODEV is currently striving to bring international certifying bodies into Kenya because the current trade system (auction house) within the country does not meet the requirements of these organizations. Our Transitional™ coffee is a special coffee. It is a coffee that is currently undergoing the grass root changes needed to meet organic standards. It is directly traded from crop to cup through our contacts with AGRODEV to AGRO Cafe and our amazing consumers.
